Exploration

After successfully completion of Vikramsila Excavation Project since then this office conducted exploration and re-investigation of archaeological sites. There are too many archaeological sites in various parts of India which have been explored or re-investigated by expert team of technical officials. It has brought to high many hidden glorious past in course of exploratory survey starting from Paleolithic level to Late medieval periods. This branch also conducted some problem oriented explorations. In this connection mention may be made of Kabrakala situated on the confluence of river Son and Koel in Palamau district of Jharkhand, Polished and grounded stone tools, worked bone pieces, various shades of N.B.P., ring wells and medieval bronze vessels and vases have been reported from this village.

Exploratory survey has been also carried out in Brahamputra valley of Assam. Several rokcut shivalinga, Vishnupadas, sculptures and caves have been discovered on the hilly track on the river Jinari, a tributary of river Brahamputra.

Exploration has also conducted in the district of Gorakhapur and Maharajganj of U.P. exploring the site like Rajdhani tila, and Kanhaiya Baba-ka-Sthan etc.
